Big is big in Japan
Tommy Lee Boss
Lost in Translation: The Photographer wanted an ‘Acapella’ group for the shoot – they sent ‘A Coppola’.
They really wanted the rugged guy from ‘Titanic’ – but Billy Zane was already booked.
Roam About Mike was butt-sore when he found out Condomania didn’t have any Condos for sale.
So he bought a traditional Japanese house with his best friend (and his wife).
Colonel means ‘Dragon Radar’ in Japanese.
The Father and Son Raccoon dog duo were greatly contented when human hands got caught in the door pocket.
Funky Monkey Babys'[sic] new album was panned by critics, but spun by the band’s management as the “Last Best” album of the year.
After the lawsuit, penguins and roller-skating robots were once again permitted on the subway together.
Lee submitted his final version of ‘Obama with Dog’. He thought he nailed it. He didn’t.
For one fleeting moment, Mary was so high on Mushrooms, it created an all-consuming black hole in her mouth.
And when she came down, she felt…different.
Very different.
Still laughing while commenting. Man, I wish I had your commentary on Japanese ads with me all the time. Like a “Mike’s walking tour of Tokyo advertising” or something.

We need to make this happen! I could be your surrogate, like Super Dave, only shorter.

I love me some Engrish. Where else can penguins and roller skating robots live in such harmony?

Thanks, dude! You might want to listen to Funky Monkey Babys before buying…touted as a “hip-hop” group, but really, straight j-pop aka eye-gouging-pop.
Thanks for the share.

I think Lee just got the title wrong, “Obama In Drag,” would nail it. Great collection of hilarity, Mike, both the ads and the commentary! And I love that you and your friend were comfortable enough to share your bathhouse pic, looks like something out of Bukach In Wonderland.

Haha! Yes, Obama in drag would be much better.
Thanks, Laura.
That was our pre-bathhouse robing – we both took the blue pill, or was it the red pill?

Mike, please tell me you’re too young and virile for the blue pill…..

Now I finally understand what that raccoon family is doing in my backyard — they are patiently waiting for me to get my hand stuck in the door so that they can point and laugh. Thanks Tokyo!

It’s what they do, conniving bastards!
When your hand is stuck in the door, they’ll rob you. It’s what they did to me – true story.

LOL! Condomania? Oh my god. And Funky Monkey Babys? Hilarious!
None of this surprises me, actually.
If you went to Taiwan or when you go to Vietnam, you’ll find a lot fewer “foreign” faces in ads, even celebrities.

These were just odd – out of place, you know? Like seeing Bruce Willis advertising a bank in Russia. But the Tommy Lee one was so weird – he plays an alien visiting japan to study humans, and everyone around him drinks Boss coffee. That’s the marketing behind it. Wha?
Who else is making bank in the Asian market? Any surprises?
